Book Release: Cowboy Up (9/27/11)27-Sep-2011
Cowboy Up: Kenny Sailors, The Jump Shot and Wyoming's Championship Basketball History is now available at amazon.com or through your local bookstore. Contact the author about ordering a signed copy.
As the dark clouds of World War II loom on the horizon, an American original named Kenny Sailors captures the attention of the country and leads the University of Wyoming basketball program on an astonishing run to the NCAA championship.
Sailors, pioneer of the modern jump shot, took New York's Madison Square Garden by storm while leading the Cowboys to the national title. Before the confetti was cleaned up, the All-American was off to war. The Wyoming treasure would return to campus in Laramie and later became one of the NBA's early stars.
Ryan Thorburn's third book –
Cowboy Up: Kenny Sailors, The Jump Shot and Wyoming's Championship Basketball History (Burning Daylight, 2011) – weaves the brilliant tapestry of the program's rich tradition around Sailors's remarkable story. The journey takes the readers everywhere the Pokes have been from the first national championship in the 1930s to the dazzling Fennis Dembo days.
Thorburn, a University of Wyoming graduate, is a sports writer at the Boulder Camera. He is also the award-winning author of
